This Mossi soldier is back from a lost battle against the colonialists, who had guns and cannons. The soldiers did not have guns to fight against the colonialists but rather relied on "gri gri"or magic. They would wear magic bracelets, necklaces or outfits that would protect them against bullets, knives or arrows of enemies.
